Artificial intelligence in supplementary healthcare

Artificial intelligence in supplementary healthcare

Artificial intelligence in supplementary healthcare has been bringing significant benefits to health plan operators, healthcare professionals and patients. With the growth of technological advances and the availability of large volumes of data in the healthcare sector, the application of artificial intelligence has become increasingly relevant.

One of the main areas in which artificial intelligence is applied in supplementary healthcare is data analysis. With machine learning algorithms and natural language processing, it is possible to extract valuable information from electronic medical records, medical records, reports, among other documents. This allows you to identify trends, patterns and insights that can help with clinical decision making, chronic disease management and prevention of complications.

Furthermore, artificial intelligence can also be used to detect fraud and waste in supplementary healthcare systems. With real-time data analysis, it is possible to identify potential irregularities and suspicious behaviors, contributing to reducing costs and improving the efficiency of health plan operators.

Other application of artificial intelligence in supplementary health it is the personalization of care and treatment. Based on each patient's data, it is possible to develop predictive models that help with diagnosis, prognosis and choosing the best treatment plan for each individual. This results in a more precise and individualized approach, improving health outcomes and beneficiary satisfaction.

Telemedicine also benefits from artificial intelligence in supplementary healthcare. With the analysis of medical images, for example, it is possible to speed up the diagnosis process and reduce the patient's time to obtain a medical opinion. Additionally, artificial intelligence can assist in triaging patients, identifying those who require urgent attention and directing them to appropriate assistance.

In June 2023, the National Supplementary Health Agency (ANS) signed three contracts with startups chosen in the first round of the public selection entitled “Artificial Intelligence Solutions for Public Power”, promoted by the Studies and Projects Financier (Finep), Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services (MGI) and National School of Public Administration (ENAP). The initiative aimed to impact the quality and cost of public services provided to citizens.

On the occasion, the director-president of ANS, Paulo Rebello, participated in the event to celebrate the contracts, held in the MCTI auditorium, in Brasília, which was attended by ministers Luciana Santos (MCTI) and Esther Dweck (MGI); and the president of FINEP, Celso Pansera.

“We were flattered by the invitation from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Finep and the Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services, through the Digital Government Secretariat, to participate in this initiative. For ANS, this selection represents recognition of the Agency's commitment to developing our Digital Transformation Plan. We believe that the possibility of incorporating the scientific and technological advances of Artificial Intelligence in improving public services will generate value for society as a whole, especially for users of health plans in Brazil”, declared Rebello.

Check out the three AI projects developed by ANS:

  • Digital Complaint Analyst: aims to speed up service to health plan beneficiaries who use the ANS to guarantee their rights to access healthcare, generating direct and relevant effects for the population assisted by supplementary healthcare;
  • Assistant for changing registered data of regulated entities: the project seeks to qualify and streamline the performance of ANS economic-financial inspection and regulation in health plan operators;
  • Use of artificial intelligence in the SUS Reimbursement process: aims to make the SUS reimbursement process more agile and secure. By law, every time a health plan beneficiary is treated by the SUS, the plan operator must bear the costs of this treatment, which must be reimbursed from the public coffers. ANS is responsible for this charge. Around 120,000 consultations are identified each quarter.

Take your first step towards your artificial intelligence projects in supplementary healthcare

However, it is important to mention that the use of artificial intelligence in supplementary healthcare must be done responsibly and ethically. It is essential to ensure the privacy and security of patient data, as well as considering the ethical and legal aspects involved in the application of these technologies.

Transparency and trust are essential elements for the successful implementation of artificial intelligence in supplementary healthcare and that is where SAUDI comes in, the medical audit system used by the largest healthcare providers in Brazil. SAUDI is a platform data-centric, intuitive and simple to use, with it you can do thingsare healthcare costs, population and patient health.

Implementing SAUDI is the first step towards obtaining the necessary database to feed artificial intelligence, which has been playing a crucial role in supplementary healthcare, enabling data analysis, fraud detection, personalization of care and the advancement of telemedicine . With its ability to process large volumes of information and identify patterns, artificial intelligence contributes to improving efficiency, quality and results in the supplementary healthcare sector.
